Publishing

There are 2 versions of your website when using Tandem Server. 1 working version and 1 live version. When managing the content of your website you are always editing the working version of your website. The working version is not viewable on your live website; only in preview mode may you see your working version changes. Publishing your website moves your working version to your live site and is then viewable by your users.

Publishing is as easy as clicking a button. After you have made all your changes to your website go to the [Publishing] page and click the "Publish and Backup" button. The "Publish and Backup" button will publish your changes to your live site and make a backup at the same time. It is not necessary to make a backup every time you publish so to save space on your server you can use the "Publish Only" button when you make minor changes to your content.

View Live Site

This button will open a new window on your screen that will show how your site currently appears on the web. This will show exactly what a visitor to your website would see.

Preview Changes

This button will open a new window that will show you what your site will look like on the web once you publish your changes. This is NOT how your site currently appears on the web unless you have not saved any changes since you last published changes to your site. This can come in handy to see how your site is affected by saved changes before actually publishing them to the web. It is highly recommended that you preview your changes before publishing.

Publish Changes

This tool will publish changes to your site on the web. There are two options for this tool.
Publish and Backup – This will publish all changes to your site AND make a backup of it that will remain on your server. While backups of your site do take up storage space on your server, making a backup can be helpful if you ever want to recover this version later.

Publish Only

This will publish your site but NOT make a backup of it.

Archive Tool

This tool allows you to backup the current version of your website or restore a previously backed up version. This tool is not meant to be used very often but is handy when you need it. Simply click the "Restore" button next to the version you want to restore and it's done. NOTE: simply restoring a version does not make it live on your website, it makes it your working version. You must publish your changes before it becomes live.

Note: Backing up and restoring will not recover or overwrite files you have uploaded i.e. images/docs etc…
