Mailing Lists

Multiple mailing lists can be setup using the Mailing List Manager. Because email servers can limit the number of email that can be sent out for a given amount of time, it is a good idea to keep your mailing lists short and send your newsletters out in phases.

Each email address in your lists shows you the last time you sent a newsletter to it and if it was successfully sent. A failed send status could mean that the email address is invalid although it could mean that there was a problem with your mail server when it tried to send to it i.e. (you were over your email limit).

Check with your hosting company on the limits of your email server so you do not go over your limit. Going over your email limit will block some e-mails from being sent out.

Newsletters

When creating a newsletter you are required to enter a date, subject and HTML content. The date field is used for displaying your newsletters on your website, all newsletters will be sorted by this date (newest first). The subject field is used both by your website and your e-mails. When displaying newsletters on your web site the subject field is displayed as the newsletter title, when sending in an email it is used as the email subject. The HTML content is used for both your web site and e-mails.

Newsletters can be personalized by adding tags to the newsletter HTML content that will be replaced with personalized information. i.e. The tag "%VISITOR_NAME%" will be replaced with the recipients name. When viewed on your website this tag will be replaced with the localzied string for this tag, by default this value is set to "Visitor" and can be overwritten using the Localization tool.

Sending

When sending your newsletters out you must select a mailing lists to send to. Once you have selected a mailing lists you must then select which e-mails you want to send to. After you have selected the email addresses you want to send to then click the “Preview and Send” button. This will open a preview pop-up window of the newsletter you are about to send. Make sure you are not blocking pop-ups or you will not get this window and you will not be able to send your newsletters.

Once you have the preview pop-up window open you can now send your newsletter by pressing the send button. You will be prompted to verify that you really want to send your newsletter, click ok and your newsletter will be sent.
